The room felt warm. Despite only having on
the toweling robe, sweat gathered on Dean’s brow and across his chest. Sitting
on the chair, he pulled off his socks and reached over to tuck them into his
shoes. His gaze snagged on his pants, hanging by the waist from a hook, his
wallet causing a noticeable bulge in the back pocket. It wouldn’t be smart to
leave it there. Better to slip it into the pocket of his robe.
Placing his hands on the arm of the chair,
he was about to lever himself up when a slight whirring, coming from the
cabinet across from the chair, caught his attention. As he stared, a panel slid
aside to reveal a television.
“What the fuck?”
The screen lightened and buzzed with static
for a moment before flickering to life, revealing Janie’s face.
But this was a Janie he hadn’t seen in a
while—wearing makeup, her blonde hair done and curling around her face in
almost surreal contrast to the fluffy, homey-looking robe she wore. She smiled,
but it looked strained, as if she was worried what his reaction to her little
escapade would be.
You
should be worried.
“Hey, honey,” she said softly and then
paused, biting her lower lip the way she always did when she was nervous.
“Thanks for coming.”
“You didn’t give me much choice,” he
muttered, but realized she couldn’t hear him when she went on speaking.
“I won’t bore you with a lot of sentimental
nonsense, because I know how you hate that kind of thing.” Her smile grew more
natural for a moment, and Dean found himself smiling back against his will.
“But I do think you need to understand why we’re here.”
When Janie started yakking she was apt to
go on for a while, so Dean leaned back in the chair and stretched his legs out
in front of him, making himself comfortable. He even relaxed enough to chuckle
softly. With any luck she’d get on a roll and eat up a good portion of spa time
while she was at it.
“We’ve been together for over ten years now
and, of course, things have changed. Especially since we had the kids.” She bit
her lip again, but her voice sounded somehow stronger as she continued. “I love
our life, love you for making it possible, but lately I’ve realized there was
something missing.”
To Dean’s surprise, a wave of pink climbed
from the vee of her robe, washed up her neck and tinged her cheeks. “We used to
have such sexy times together, but I guess I figured that was all over now we’re
parents. But I miss being that wild woman who let you make love to me in the
park one afternoon, knowing at any moment someone might come along and catch
us. And I miss the way we used to dare each other to fulfill whatever crazy
fantasy came into our heads. We’ve gotten so staid, boring.” She shook her
head. “It’s time to shake things up. Get the juices flowing a little.”
As her words percolated into his head, Dean
sat forward, stared hard at his wife’s image on the screen, wondering where she
was going with all this. Yeah, he missed all that too, sometimes couldn’t
resist bringing it up in conversation, hoping it would stir her up as much as
it got him going. They’d done some crazy shit back in the day. Like breaking
into a church tower one night in Montreal and fucking each other silly, the
lights of the city spread out beneath them. They’d been up so high it felt as
if he were flying, nothing but her soft, strong body keeping him tethered to
the earth. Just remembering giving it to her from behind, her pussy hot and wet
and squeezing his cock, her screeching wail as she came, instantly took him to
full, almost painful erection.
But he never realized she felt the same
way, thought about those times with fondness and a hint of sadness too.
“I remembered one of the things you used to
whisper to me when we were fucking. One of those fantasies I never agreed to
fulfill for you.” Janie’s voice wobbled slightly and the color in her cheeks
heightened to a rosy glow on her pale, freckled skin. She lifted her chin, lips
firming slightly before she continued. “I didn’t have the confidence or desire
to do it then, but I do now.” Her gaze flickered to one side for an instant, as
though she were looking beyond the camera, before seeming to settle on him again.
“I hope you still want this, honey, and enjoy it as much as I intend to.”
She got up and stepped back from the
camera, which zoomed out to follow her, revealing the rest of the room. Before
Dean could even absorb the implication of the low bed behind Janie, another
figure entered the frame, walking to stand beside his wife. His heart, which
was already pounding, went into overdrive.
Beth?
“I think you guys are acquainted, aren’t
you?” Janie grinned and in that smile was all the devilish, arousing wildness
Dean had been missing for so long. “We’re going to get to know her a lot
better.”
